I language in different ways… At 17, I added English to my repertoire. And, in my 30s, I had the beautiful opportunity of inviting my inner child to play through self-learning photography. As with many of our pursuits, its genesis was a personal quest led by curiosity. In my case, it was as a way of entering my child’s experiences with the world she was just discovering as a, then, toddler. Photography Through Your Eyes began a mere year after she was born. It evolved into a wonderfully fulfilling side-business for 15 years, whereby I dabbled in artificial and natural light photography to ‘capture’ various big life milestones for many clients - engagements, weddings, newborns, family holidays, birthdays, graduations….
It happens that after we learn to language by (any) means this knowledge and practice becomes encoded in who we are. So, my cameras and (later) my phone have traveled every place with me. Technology became an extension of my body. My visual languaging through photography has served to teach me a meditative sort of observational noticing, and it also connects me with the ‘more than human’ surroundings.
I moved to NYC from Tampa, FL in 2017 and Photography Through Your Eyes said its good-bye, as I transitioned to focus more wholly into my evolving career. Yet, its lessons were mine to keep and share.
